32 Weeks

Between 32-34 weeks gestation, Baby Olive will have matured enough so that he can breathe on his own and feed independently too. He continues to demonstrate good health and Mommy is also doing well.

Our target delivery date is at 34 weeks, or June 7. Baby Olive's favorite OB/GYN is on duty at labor & delivery on June 6, and we may try to induce labor then so Baby Olive can be born into her competent hands--on 6/6/06!

Boring is Good

It's Saturday night, and we've now completed our first week at the hospital. Mom and Baby Olive are doing great. No signs of any infection or labor, and Baby Olive's heartbeat graphs (2x/day) are picture perfect. He doesn't seem to care about all the concern everybody is showing for him. He's still quite happy: kicking, splashing around, and having good heartbeat patterns while he focuses on maturing his lungs to breathe. The ultrasound from last Saturday estimated his weight at 3 lbs., 15 oz.--almost 4 pounds! The margin of error can be great, but if it's accurate, Baby Olive is larger than 90% of babies at his gestational age. This will make him even better prepared for life out in the big wide world.

Mom & Dad have been busy reading up on premature baby care and revising their birth plan for the upcoming delivery. Every day he stays inside is a blessing and knocks about 3 days off time spent in the Neonatal ICU (NICU), so like our doctor told us, "boring is good."

31 Weeks

Baby Olive's due date was July 18, but apparently he couldn't wait that long.

Jenn broke her water on Saturday, and has been hospitalized since then at UNC Women's Hospital. Baby Olive, Mom & Dad are doing fine. Baby Olive will spend his final days in utero at the hospital until he comes out to see the world as a premature baby. Jenn is on complete bed rest until she goes into labor. Our target is for him to be born at 34 weeks, which is 3 weeks away. But he may come at any time.

Stay tuned for future updates!
