Boring is Good
It's Saturday night, and we've now completed our first week at the hospital. Mom and Baby Olive are doing great. No signs of any infection or labor, and Baby Olive's heartbeat graphs (2x/day) are picture perfect. He doesn't seem to care about all the concern everybody is showing for him. He's still quite happy: kicking, splashing around, and having good heartbeat patterns while he focuses on maturing his lungs to breathe. The ultrasound from last Saturday estimated his weight at 3 lbs., 15 oz.--almost 4 pounds! The margin of error can be great, but if it's accurate, Baby Olive is larger than 90% of babies at his gestational age. This will make him even better prepared for life out in the big wide world.
Mom & Dad have been busy reading up on premature baby care and revising their birth plan for the upcoming delivery. Every day he stays inside is a blessing and knocks about 3 days off time spent in the Neonatal ICU (NICU), so like our doctor told us, "boring is good."
